Kentucky Youth Advocates offers many different opportunities for advocates from around Kentucky to become leaders for children.
Child Advocacy Fellowship: The Children’s Advocacy Fellowship is a unique opportunity for citizens who are interested in children’s issues to affect positive change at the state and local levels. The fellows become a base of trained, community level child advocates. They focus their attention on the state level policy issues as they relate to children’s services. Through a series of trainings and assignments, the fellows learn advocacy skills, pertinent facts, and meet people who help shape children’s health policy in the state of Kentucky. By completing advocacy activites over the course of the program, the fellows begin to learn how to integrate advocacy into their work and professional lives.
KIDS COUNT Conversations: KIDS COUNT Conversations are workshop opportunities for community members to receive county-specific information on the well-being of children and discuss strategies for addressing areas of concern. The KIDS COUNT Conversations will provide a more in-depth understanding of the host’s KIDS COUNT county data, as well as advocacy strategies and opportunities for action available at the county and state level. The goals of the KIDS COUNT Conversations are to provide local-level KIDS COUNT data, improve local networking among child advocates, develop and enhance KYA’s relationships with advocacy supporters throughout Kentucky, and increase the overall level of child advocacy in Kentucky. Children’s Advocacy Day at the Capitol: Children’s Advocacy Day at the Capitol provides an opportunity for those interested in children’s issues to gather and show our legislators that Kentucky cares about its children.
