the independent voice for Kentucky's children

Governor Beshear recently predicted that Kentucky will face a potential budget shortfall of more than $1.4 billion. How will this shortfall be filled? Over the last three budget years, the Governor has turned to Recovery Act money, the Rainy Day Fund, and six rounds of budget cuts. This time, the rainy day fund will be dry, public services will have no more notches on their belts to tighten, and Recovery Act money will be available to help balance the budget in 2011 but not in 2012.

Join Kentucky Youth Advocates, and others from across the state, to discuss Kentucky's fiscal situation in greater detail. Come learn just how big Kentucky’s budget gap is, and what the options are for closing the gap. Also, learn from an experienced state budget advocate, Jon Shure, Deputy Director of the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, on how to talk about the budget crisis effectively.
