Medicaid Rally in State Capitol
Frankfort – The Kentuckians for Health Care Reform Coalition and other organizations concerned about the current and projected deficits in the Medicaid budget hosted a press conference in the Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. Speakers included Debra Miller, Kentucky Youth Advocates, and Jane Chiles, the Catholic Conference of Kentucky. Current Medicaid recipients shared their stories of how Medicaid assistance increases their independence and strengthens their families.
The focus of the press conference was on Medicaid spending priorities during this time of budget crisis. Advocates addressed approaches to solving the Medicaid deficit in the short-term and to making long-term Medicaid reform. Organizations representing advocacy groups, consumers, and providers of Medicaid services emphasized the need to maintain current services to the 600,000 children, adults, and seniors covered by Medicaid.
